Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs are so full of young talent it’s incredible and not only that they have depth to back up that young talent. The prospect of what could be has the fans of the last place Cubbies in a tizzy of excitement for what the future will bring.

Perhaps these kids will finally be the ones to break the long standing curse that has kept the Cubs out of the World Series for so long. They might not get there next season but they will likely be in the mix for a spot in the postseason.

The Cubs have developed some great players in their farm system and acquired a couple more via trades. Over the summer they traded Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the Oakland Athletics for the A’s number one prospect shortstop Addison Russell and their 2011 first round pick Billy McKinney.

Through drafts and the signing of amateur free agents they have acquired guys such as what they call their “core four” consisting of infielders Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Kris Bryant and outfielder Albert Almora. Almora and Bryant are still in the minors but they won’t be for long. Bryant just won USA TODAY’s Minor League Player of the Year Award.

Soler and Baez are both currently with the Cubs. Both players have power and each of them hit three home runs in their first two games in the show. They were the first two players to accomplish that feat since 1900. All these young players are gaining valuable big league experience now and should be able to start strong next season.

Along with 24 and 25-year-old “veterans” Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo and potential future leadoff hitter Arismendy Alcantara, the Cubbies lineup is so good that they will be hard to beat in 2015.
