Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers were supposed to be competitive in what is already a crazy A.L. Western Division but the injuries set in even before spring training.

The Rangers lost starter Derek Holland to a freak accident. He was at home and tripped over his dog going down the stairs, injuring his knee so badly that he is only now close to making a start. It is September!

The Rangers also lost Jurickson Profar, baseball’s number one prospect in 2013, to a shoulder injury in during spring training. An MRI revealed a tear that, at the time, required rest and not surgery. He re-injured his shoulder while rehabbing and has not played a game for the Rangers this season.

In order to give Profar consistent playing time, the Rangers traded away second baseman Ian Kinsler over the off-season to the Detroit Tigers for the power hitting Prince Fielder who out of the blue suddenly needed to have season-ending neck surgery.

After Fielder, the injuries just kept coming in droves for the Rangers who have used a record number of different players, especially pitchers this season.

Most recently Rangers’ ace Yu Darvish was shutdown for the remainder of the season with an elbow injury. Even with the sudden departure of manager Ron Washington this past week, if the Rangers can come back healthy in 2015 they could be yet another force in the A.L. West.
