Game: Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers (-7)

Pick: Chicago (+7)

I want this to be Jay Cutler’s season. I wrote a column in July where I said that 2014 had to be Jay Cutler’s season. So I’m not giving up on the Bears. Not yet. They still have the best wide receiver duo in football, a top-five running back, and a quarterback in Cutler as talented as any quarterback in the NFL I expect they’ll leave Levi Stadium at 0-2, but the Bears will force Colin Kaepernick to beat them in the fourth quarter.

Monday, September 15

Game: Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts (-3)

Fun fact: The Colts have not lost back-to-back games in the Andrew Luck era. Maybe I jinxed them, but I don’t believe this is the week they finally do. Things working in the Colts’ favor: they’re are at home, they’ll be far more desperate, and they’re better at football than the Eagles, who trailed at halftime 17-0 to the Jaguars last week — IN PHILADELPHIA.

Bottom line: Andrew Luck wins football games, especially games that he has to win. This is one of those games.
