The San Francisco Giants got pantsed by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. In a game that was otherwise a forgettable and embarrassing blowout, however, the Giants did make a little piece of baseball history.

More from MLB

Manager Bruce Bochy called on his son Brett Bochy to pitch in this game. That was the first time a father, as a team’s manager, had substituted his son at pitcher.

Per Andrew Baggarly:

As for how that outing actually went for Bochy, he had about as much fun as the other Giants’ pitchers in this one: in 1.1 innings of work, he surrendered a homer that plated two earned runs.

The context of the game might have taken a bit of the shine off this moment for Bochy and his son; even still, baseball has been around for such a long time that it is noteworthy anytime something happens for the first time ever.

How well Bochy will be able to stick in the big leagues in future seasons on 25-man rosters remains to be seen, but his call-up this September provided for a cool moment, even if it did come in an ugly loss.
