Bottoms Up for NFL Week 2: New Bills paying off
2. AFC South: Houston Texans (2-0)
Bill O’Brien’s team was workmanlike in its 30-14 conquest of the Oakland Raiders. The team held the ball 38:36, did not give up a sack and didn’t commit a turnover in the 16-point victory.
The workhorse runner known as Arian Foster appears back on his game. His 55 carries leads the NFL after two weeks and his 241 yards rushing is second only to Dallas’ DeMarco Murray (285).
Of course, we have seen the Texans get off to good starts before. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the franchise has opened the season at 2-0.
We won’t remind anyone what happened after that in 2013.
Week 3: at New York Giants
1. AFC East: Buffalo Bills (2-0)
After a troubling preseason, expectations seem to drop for the team from Orchard Park. But the Bills have been efficient enough on offense and opportunistic on the defensive side of the ball, hence the club’s best start since 2011.
Doug Marrone’s offensive unit has scored only three touchdowns in two games. But Buffalo has averaged a tidy 153.0 yards per game on the ground, committed just one turnover and given up just one sack. And the team’s pass rush, which produced 57 sacks a season ago, has already add six more sacks in two games.
Finally, kudos to Marrone’s special teams as Dan Carpenter has connected on 8-of-9 field goal attempts while C.J. Spiller returned a kickoff for a score 102 yards in last Sunday’s win over the visiting Miami Dolphins.
Week 3: vs. San Diego Chargers
