NFL Rankings: Top 10 hybrid players
1. Houston Texans’ J.J. Wattt
The $100 million dollar has everything that he wants. He’s got talent, production, fame and money. Yet, when he signed the contract extension, he woke up early for a workout in the gym — at 4 a.m. That’s what impressed everyone about Watt when he was coming out of the draft. He was a try-hard. But now that’s over-simplistic. He’s a meat-and-potatoes player sometimes. Then he’s suddenly slinking around the field like a cat, which makes no sense because he’s 6-foot-5 and 295 pound.
He’s the best defensive lineman in the league — probably the best defensive player. He plays defensive end, generally as a run defender. Then he moves inside to the rush the passer. But he can do both from either position better than almost anyone in the league.
He’s lined up at wide receiver in the Pro Bowl. He scored a touchdown as a tight end on Sunday against the Raiders. J.J. Watt may be most commonly referred to as a defensive end. But he’s really the NFL’s best hybrid player.
