NFL Predictions: Picking Week 3 against the spread
Game: Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5)
Pick: Eagles (-6.5)
I’m not at all confident about this pick. I feel for Robert Griffin III and I wish him the best, but the Redskins have to secretly be happy that he could miss the rest of the season. Kirk Cousins isn’t just a better fit for their system, he’s a better quarterback. Period. And I don’t doubt that he can lead Washington into Philadelphia and to an outright win.
But, as a Colts fan, I witnessed first-hand how dangerous Chip Kelly’s offense can be. The Eagles are capable of exploding at any point. They’ve yet to put a full 60-minute game together, but they will at some point. I’m willing to bet it will be Sunday.
Game: Houston Texans (-2) at New York Giants
Pick: Giants (+2)
The Texans have wins against the Robert Griffin III-led Redskins and the Oakland Raiders. Like the Bills, they’re a fraudulent 2-0. The Giants aren’t much better, but they are a home underdog and they will be more desperate. I’m grabbing the points.
Game: Minnesota Vikings (+10) at New Orleans Saints
Pick: Vikings (+10)
The Saints will get off the schneid this week. There’s no way they start 0-3. No way. But 10 points is a lot of points, and the Vikings aren’t a bad team. They crushed the Rams in St. Louis and, if it weren’t for a four-interception meltdown by Matt Schaub, would have at least kept it close with the Patriots last week. Even in light of the Adrian Peterson mess, the Vikings will be competitive in New Orleans.
