Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is retired and an NFL analyst now. There might not be many people that know, understand football and can weigh in on what happens on a field more so then Lewis.

Unfortunately a lot of “football discussions” this week haven’t really been about what goes on between the lines. Instead, we’ve had to address issues like domestic violence, child abuse and cover-up scandals in the wake of incidents involving star players like former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.

And that is when the discussion should no longer involve Ray Rice because of his personal history. Lewis was convicted of obstruction of justice for allegedly covering up a homicide.

So when Lewis goes on ESPN’s NFL Countdown and says things like this, it raises eyebrows: “Some things you can cover up, and there’s some things you can’t.”

I think ESPN should know better then to let Lewis keep commenting on the Ray Rice and cover-up situation, which many seem as curious at best and hypocritical. Who cares how well he knows the Ravens, we wouldn’t be putting Adrian Peterson on a panel to discuss Ray Rice right now either.
