Dan Marino joined the Miami Dolphins as a special advisor over the offseason, though his role was never clearly defined.

More from Miami Dolphins

On Tuesday, following reports that he has been unimpressed by quarterback Ryan Tannehill and head coach Joe Philbin so far, Marino spoke with the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero and shot down the report.

"“This whole thing with the thing [Bleacher Report] said, there’s not once in this whole situation where Mr. Ross has asked me, ‘Hey you have to sit down and evaluate Joe Philbin or Ryan Tannehill,'” Marino said by phone. “My whole thing from the beginning has been to support on the football side, be excited about being back in the organization and as far as the community stuff, working on the sponsorship side — things like going over to meet with some of the sponsors in London. And that’s really it.“I don’t know where [Bleacher Report] got this information.”"

According to the report, Marino has met with Tannehill but has never coached him and it isn’t likely to change with Marino adamantly against the idea that his role has anything to do with football on the field.

This entire situation is kind of weird, and I don’t even know if it really matters at all. If Marino isn’t happy with Tannehill and Philbin, publicly or privately, it isn’t as if he has any control over the football operations. His voice could carry weight with current management, but I even doubt that it would carry enough to warrant any drastic changes.

But Marino has been in the media for sometime. He knows what creates a stir and it isn’t surprising to see him to to defuse the situation–true or false–for the better of the Dolphins organization.
