NFL: 5 takeaways from Week 3
Lights Shine At Night
In Joe McKnight’s first time getting offensive snaps this season for the Kansas City Chiefs he scored two receiving touchdowns on six catches with 64 yards. He totaled the most catches and yardage in KC’s dominant win over the Miami Dolphins.
McKnight was once a highly-regarded recruit to USC that never lived up to the hype. The New York Jets drafted him with a fourth round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He never earned or was given the opportunity to be a big contributor on offense. He is no doubt partially to blame for the lack of success he had with the Jets.
BUT there’s no way around this is another example of Brian Schottenheimer being a completely incompetent offensive coordinator. McKnight had proven to be extremely skillful with the ball in his hands piling up over 2,000 yards worth of kick returns in 2011 and 2012. He scored a touchdown in each season and averaged 27 and 31 yards per kick return those two years. During McKnight’s three years with New York he had 17 receptions total and zero touchdowns. On a team at a loss for skill possession players Schotty not being able to scheme McKnight into the game plan is another check mark on a long list of inability to get the most out of players.
