Derek Jeter and the 20 highest career salaries in MLB
5. Mark Teixeira, 1B – $166,775,000
Teixeira has two years remaining on his eight-year, $180 million deal he signed with the Yankees prior to the 2009 season. He led the AL in home runs and rbi his first season in the Bronx when he finished second in the MVP voting and backed that up with two more seasons with 30 home runs and 100 rbi seasons, but the last few years have been disappointing.
2012 saw his home runs drop to a career-low 24 and his 84 rbi were the lowest mark since he had that many in his rookie season with the Texas Rangers and was limited to 123 games. The next season was the low mark of his career as he hit .151 in 15 games before injury ended his season.
Teixeira continued his downward trajectory with a .219 average, 22 home runs and 61 rbi entering the season’s final weekend, which represent all new career-lows for a player with two years and $45 million left on his deal.
