New York Jets (+1.5) over Detroit Lions

Absolutely no one is on the New York Jets here, and with good reason. The Jets have lost back-to-back games to NFC North opponents, blowing a significant lead to the Green Bay Packers before suffering a home loss to the Chicago Bears, and with the Detroit Lions looking like a playoff team, it is tough to trust Geno Smith and New York’s offense to outscore the high-wire act led by Calvin Johnson from Detroit.

However, the Jets have arguably the best run defense in the NFL, which should help in making Detroit one-dimensional, and the Lions are simply a different team away from their home building. In Detroit’s only road contest, they were soundly drubbed by a similar defense (Carolina), and it is always an adventure to trust Matthew Stafford on the road in any conditions.

It probably won’t be fun to “root for” the Jets in this spot, but they are the right side, especially when receiving the (small) benefit of 1.5 points.
