NFL: Poor Patriots, 5 takeaways from Week 4
Ummmmmm Bills
What the Buffalo Bills are attempting to do is systematically broken. Even if they find success in weakened AFC East replacing second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel with veteran Kyle Orton it speaks to a broken decision making process involving the NFL Draft.
Manuel wasn’t some late round long shot attempt at drafting a QB, they picked him with the 16th pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was taken to be their signal caller of the future and after 14 games they’ve decided to halt their attempt at developing him in favor of an average to below average vet.
Because of general manager Doug Whaley’s decision to unnecessarily go all in trading up for wide receiver Sammy Watkins, including a 2015 first rounder, patience was no longer an option.
Buffalo has no choice, but to chase wins this season at no matter the cost of their future. What’s better for their long-term health, figuring out of Manuel is their QB or winning nine games with Orton?
If they’ve already come to the conclusion Manuel can’t be a franchise QB after 14 games what does that say about their talent evaluation when it comes to the NFL Draft?
