Al Jefferson, Charlotte Hornets

Jefferson is in what could be the last year of a $41 million contract. There is a player option for next year, but if he has another season this year that he had last year, there is no way he’ll pick up that option.

Jefferson was a double-double machine. He averaged 21.8 points per game and 10.8 rebounds to go with 1.1 blocks. He led the then-Bobcats to a playoff berth, and held his own against the mighty Heat, averaging 18.3 points per game and grabbing 9.3 rebounds while dealing with a foot injury. He was named to the All NBA third team even though he was snubbed by not getting picked to play in the All Star game.

With the addition of Lance Stephenson, Jefferson can continue to concentrate on scoring in the post. Stephenson will be able to find him, and with Jefferson continuing his offensive endeavors, the Hornets could make some noise in the Eastern Conference.

If he does have another stellar season, that option will be a dream unfulfilled for the Hornets. With a shortage of good centers in the league, having one hit the open court in free agency will bring Jefferson some pretty big coin.

It all starts with game one of the regular season. The pressure is on for Jefferson. He can hit the jackpot with a good 2014 season.
