Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson make history

Stat: Cobb, Nelson each have 7-plus receptions for 100-plus yards and two touchdowns

Once.

That’s how many times in modern NFL history a pair of receivers had each caught at least seven passes for 100-plus yards and two touchdowns in a game. That is, until Green Bay Packers wideouts Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson did it Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

The other pair? Wes Welker (10 receptions, 150 yards, 2 TD) and Randy Moss (8 receptions, 129 yards, 3 TD) in the biggest blowout in NFL history, a 59-0 laugher by the Pats over the Titans in Oct. 2009.

Green Bay took a 21-17 lead into halftime, then came out guns blazing in the second half and shut out the Bears, 17-0, en route to the 21-point blowout win. Cobb and Nelson had a touchdown in each half thanks to a brilliant afternoon from Rodgers, who was on fire throughout.

Rodgers finished completing 22 of 28 passes (78.57 percent) for 302 yards, four touchdowns and no picks for a robust 151.2 rating. He now owns the Green Bay franchise record for most games with a passer rating at or above 150.0, with two. Brett Favre, Lynn Dickey and Bart Starr each had one in their respective Packers careers.

All those shiny stats meant a win and improving to 2-2, a game behind the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions. It’s been only one game since Rodgers told fans and the media to relax after the team’s 1-2 start, and that game against Chicago probably has most fans as relaxed as ever, trusting the best quarterback in the NFL to lead their team to the playoffs after a down 2013 season.
