4) AFC North

Only two teams in the AFC North were in action this week, but there were mixed results. On one hand, the Baltimore Ravens were utterly dominant in putting the Carolina Panthers in the blender over the weekend, and John Harbaugh’s club looks very good. Many, including myself, wrote the Ravens off in the preseason based on worries about their defense and running game, but the passing game has exceeded expectations (especially in the case of Steve Smith) and the defense has been solidly above-average.

Negatively, the Pittsburgh Steelers dropped an inexplicable decision to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they looked bad in executing that defeat. Pittsburgh has either looked fantastic or inept with nothing in between this season, and frankly, they are one of the toughest teams to evaluate in the NFL right.

In terms of the two teams who cruised through bye weeks, the Cincinnati Bengals are still the favorites in the division at 3-0 and the Cleveland Browns are clearly the bottom of the barrel. Ho-hum.
