Is Bill Simmons leaving ESPN?

ESPN has been the Worldwide Leader in Sports for quite some time now, but they might be losing one of the most intriguing and important personalities. According to a report from Nicholas Carlson of Business Insider, Bill Simmons is upset with ESPN after being suspended recently and could be looking to leave the company. This would be a tough loss for ESPN, but it might be the best thing for both sides.

Bill Simmons is one of the more outspoken analysts in the sports industry and he has gotten into trouble multiple times. The most recent issue that got Bill Simmons suspended without pay were his comments about NFL commissioner Roger Goodell being a liar and then challenging ESPN to punish him for it. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bill Simmons leave because of his suspension and there are plenty of other networks that would love to scoop him up.

Perhaps the most intriguing piece of news coming out from Business Insider is that Bill Simmons is making $3 million per year. That price seems very steep for an analyst, but then again it wouldn’t be too terribly surprising for the type of viewership that he brings in. Bill Simmons is one of the top writers and on-screen analysts in the game right now and ESPN has to pay him in order to have him on their team.

That being said, there are plenty of teams out there that could use the boost that Simmons could potentially bring. There is a good possibility that Bill Simmons ends up doing something on his own and will try to build his own empire like he has with Grantland.

Needless to say, Bill Simmons is going to continue getting a lot of publicity and exposure no matter where he goes. Whether he leaves ESPN or stays, his fans and haters aren’t going to be going anywhere. He receives quite a bit of hate for his opinions, but there is no doubt that he is one of the best columnists the sports world has seen recently.
