College Football: Abdullah, Gurley pace Top 25 RB of 2014
By Daniel
10. Nick Wilson – Arizona:
It’s never easy replacing a truly great player, but that’s exactly what freshman running back Nick Wilson has done — quite amazingly. Last year Ka’Deem Carey dominated defenses at will. Wilson has picked up where Carey left off and has topped 100 yards three times already and is averaging 6.4 yards per carry on the year. His biggest game (not in total yards, which was 174) came in a huge upset over N0. 1 Oregon.
Best Game: Against Oregon (92 Rushing Yards, 2 TDs, 7.1 AVG, 34 Receiving Yards, 1 TD)
9. Devon Johnson – Marshall:
I’ve been saying it since way before the season began, the Thundering Herd are a force to be reckoned with this year. They’re 4-0, have yet to be challenged, and Johnson has had four big games. The junior has scored in all four games and is averaging 7.4 yards per carry on the season. Look for the rest of the nation to pay attention to Marshall as the season rolls on; Johnson is a huge reason why.
Best Game: Against Miami (OH) (151 Rushing Yards, 2 TDs, 7.9 AVG)
8. Josh Robinson – Mississippi State
The Bulldogs are one of the top teams in the SEC and one of the big reasons is because of their junior running back Robinson. He’s already statistically surpassed the year he had as a sophomore in only four games. He has four touchdowns in the last three games is averaging and impressive 7.8 yards per carry. His best game was when Mississippi State needed him the most (see below).
Best Game: Against LSU (197 Rushing Yards, 1 TD, 12.3 AVG)
7. D.J. Foster – Arizona State:
The junior has made amazing strides from a year ago. In 2014 he’s looking like one of the best backs in the nation. He’s had three massive games and one bad game (like the whole team did) against UCLA. He opened the year with a three touchdown game against Weber State and that isn’t even his best game of the year. He’s averaging a crazy 8.7 yards per carry for the season.
Best Game: Against New Mexico (216 Rushing Yards, 1 TD, 11.4 AVG, 54 receiving yards)
6. Tevin Coleman – Indiana:
The Big Ten is a in a downtime as a conference, everyone knows that, but it still has its share of great running backs. As unlikely as Indiana is for a team to possess a great running back, Coleman certainly is one. The junior has ran for at least 122 yards in all four games and has scored in each contest, too. He had five touchdowns after the Hoosiers’ first two games and is averaging 7.9 yards per rush on the year.
Best Game: Against Indiana State (247 Rushing Yards, 2 TDs, 10.7 AVG)
