NFL: Luck, Manning lead MVP rankings through Week 4
By Pete Schauer
1. Philip Rivers, QB, San Diego Chargers
With his San Diego Chargers sitting atop the AFC West division at 3-1, Philip Rivers is the leading candidate for MVP through the first four weeks of the NFL season. Even opposing coaches agree:
Rivers is completing better than 70 percent of his passes–No. 4 in the NFL–and he leads all starting quarterbacks with a 114.5 QB rating.
What’s more impressive is that he’s thrown for nine touchdowns and just one interception to go with 1,155 yards. Rivers seems to be forcing less passes and making a lot less mistakes under head coach Mike McCoy–a far cry from his performance under Norv Turner.
We’ll have to wait and see if Rivers can sustain this extremely high level of play, but if the season were to end today, Rivers is hands down the 2014 NFL MVP.
