Tonight marked the second episode of SNL’s 40th season, but did host Sarah Silverman keep the hot streak going?

Saturday night brought another interesting episode of Saturday Night Live as Emmy award winning comedienne Sarah Silverman took over hosting duties and helped turn in another solid show this season. Alst week saw Chris Pratt come in and do a fine job of kicking off the season, but Silverman put her own spin on things — which was great to see.

Like the season premiere, the episode wasn’t perfect but Silverman helped give the show a certain quality that made it enjoyable. Some of the sketches fell flat — including the final sketch of the night — but there was still plenty to love about the episode.

Silverman got a lot of help though from a few different outlets throughout the show. First and foremost was the writing, which for the second straight week was superb and bounds ahead of where it was all of last season. Another strong point for a second week was Weekend update host Michael Che, who had a few gut busting jokes that again showed he was a perfect choice for the gig.

Being the charismatic charmer that he is, Adam Levine turned out for a few sketches to help as he served double duty as musical guest and star of a few sketches.

Silverman’s return to SNL was touted all week and it paid off in the end. It wasn’t the most perfect episode but so far SNL is two-for-two in it’s 40th season. NExt week sees Bill Hader host the show, which means there’s a chance this first burst of SNL episodes could end up being a perfect trifecta.
