The Hawkeyes have put together back-to-back successful seasons and seem to be a program that will be around for awhile. That said, they haven’t been the most successful team in the era. They continually show promise at the beginning of seasons but lose momentum as play goes on. I think they’ll be one of the top five teams in the conference over the next few years.
Best Season: 2000-01 (23-12, reached round of 32)
Top Coach of the Era: Steve Alford (1999-2007)
Top Player of the Era: Adam Haluska (2004-2007)
8. Purdue: 43 Points
Purdue has been one of the most consistently dangerous teams in the Big Ten since 2000. The Boilermakers’ home court is always raucous and they usually find themselves in the Big Dance. Although, the last couple seasons have been pretty rough for Purdue. Will they bounce back or will head coach Matt Painter be finding himself a new job soon?
Best Season: 2009-10 (29-6, reached Sweet Sixteen)
Top Coach of the Era: Matt Painter (2006-Present)
Top Player of the Era: JaJaun Johnson (2007-2011)
7. Michigan: 51 Points
The Wolverines are a team that often fluctuates in competitiveness. Some years they’re contenders for the national championship and others they do not come close to making the tournament. They’ve been hit with some sanctions in the era and that has no doubt stunted their potential as a program. Still, they’ve seen some great success in recent years.
Best Season: 2012-13 (31-8, Runner Up in the National Championship)
Top Coach of the Era: John Beilein (2007-Present)
Top Players of the Era: Trey Burke (2011-13)
