NFL Week 6 Top Storylines: Will somebody get Cordarrelle Patterson the ball?
By Andrew Garda
Will Golden Tate excel without Calvin Johnson?
At least this week he faces a Minnesota Vikings defense which hasn’t exactly shown it can lock a No. 1 receiver down. Tate showed he could be a good top receiver in Seattle last year, but what a No. 1 receiver in Seattle does and what a No. 1 in Detroit does are very different things.
Still, he has done a great job so far for the Lions, catching 31 of 40 targets thrown his way, though that was with Calvin Johnson attracting heavy attention. Now that Johnson is out, will Tate be able to overcome the extra coverage?
Again, the Vikings secondary isn’t tremendous, though the overall pass defense has been solid.
Tate is going to have to prove that if Johnson is out, he can still ball, especially if Megatron is out for any length of time.
