The Orlando Magic had a busy offseason.

Gone are guards Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo. In our veteran forward Channing Frye and guards Ben Gordon and Luke Ridnour as well as a pair of lottery picks in forward Aaron Gordon and point guard Elfrid Payton. They join a core that includes center Nikola Vucevic, forwards Maurice Harkless and Tobias Harris and the No. 2 overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, guard Victor Oladipo.

The Orlando Magic had cap space but outside of the Frye signing, they really didn’t use much of it. The’d rather build through young talent and the draft and use free agency to supplement their roster.

That’s why Cody Taylor of Basketball Insiders believes the Orlando Magic will stick to their plan and won’t use big bucks to try to lure star free agents to Orlando.

"I think the Magic will stay true to their plan of drafting young and acquiring young assets. At this point I think they’re unlikely to make any huge move in free agency given the amount of cap space they have. The fact that they had cap space this summer and only brought in Channing Frye on that contract should be evidence of the team sticking to their plan. I think this season they’ll continue to look for improvements from their core players and if a player isn’t where they want them to be then they may look to move them."

This obviously worked for Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan with the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. However, each team acquired a sure-fire, Hall-of-Fame star through the draft (Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant) while the Orlando Magic simply don’t have a player like that on their roster.
