For this season only, would you rather have Dwight Howard or Anthony Davis on your team?

Wray: Ant. Contractual matters aside ($5.6M versus $21.4M), I would like the guy who plays well alongside Omer Asik instead of decking Asik in pursuit of rebounds.

McElroy: Anthony Davis. It’s funny because I actually think both of these guys are presently underrated. But if I don’t know anything else about who is on my team, it’s Davis without hesitation. The possibilities for how to utilize him are nearly limitless.

Leroux: Despite thinking Dwight has become underappreciated after the last two somewhat disappointing seasons, Anthony Davis because playing him with a capable rim protector gives any team a seriously dangerous front line. Add in Dwight’s back and the history of bigs who dominate at a young age and we could see the gap widen substantially by April.

Clinchy: I love Dwight Howard and I think he’s become criminally underrated, but c’mon. The only two guys in NBA history to record a PER of 25 before age 21 are LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The sky is the limit for this kid. Gotta go with Davis.

Dubin: If there’s any chance I’ll ever be on the team plane, then it’s Davis. I don’t want to smell Dwight’s farts.

Maloney: Davis. He’s going to be incredible this season and he shoots almost 80 percent from the line, so you don’t have to take him out at the end of games or deal with constant fouling.

Dowsett: Davis. Dwight is already overrated again just based on the number of times “underrated” or a variant therein was used in responses before mine.

Conlin: Contracts do matter, so I’ll go with Davis. Also, his teeth are messed up so he doesn’t smile as often. I hate smiling. (This message brought to you by April Ludgate.)

Partnow: Who else you got? For this season they are close enough that how well they fit in with the rest of the talent matters far more than parsing the platonic value of either player.

McPherson: Davis. I could talk about stats and age and even farts but the simple fact of it is I don’t like Dwight Howard. I think he’s an underrated and occasionally terrific basketball player who’s absolutely vital to the Rockets but I just don’t like him.

Fenrich: Even if they made the same amount of money, I’m taking Anthony Davis. He’s already a better offensive player than Dwight’s been his entire career and he’s a good enough defensively that the drop off isn’t debilitating. And of course, he doesn’t come with a fraction of the baggage that Dwight brings. He won’t be targeted for insults from Shaq, won’t be the butt of jokes on Twitter, won’t become an offensive liability late in games because he can’t hit free throws … for now and forever more, it’s Anthony Davis over Dwight Howard.
