Cubs Fan Travels To San Francisco To Cheer Against Cardinals In NLCS
By Mike Marteny
If you can’t beat them, hope someone else does
If you were to ask someone what the greatest rivalry in baseball is, most would say Yankees-Red Sox or Dodgers-Giants, but Cardinals-Cubs can’t be that far behind. Case in point: 74 year old Jim Dawson, a Cubs fan, went through the trouble of going to San Francisco and getting a ticket to Game 5 of the NLCS just to cheer against the hated Cardinals.
That is some kind of dedication, folks.

Okay, okay. Said Cubs fan resides in California now, so it’s not like he made the trek halfway across the country to see the Cardinals get beat, but it still takes a lot of hate to shell out that kind of cash to attend a game you could just as easily watch on TV. As we all know, it’s just not the same. No amount of high definition or 3-D technology can match the thrill of being there.
As we all know, Cubs fans are everywhere. What you don’t often see is one show up decked out in full Cubs gear show up to cheer against the Cardinals. That said, when your team has only reached the NLCS three times since World War II, you never know when the next meaningful Cubs game will happen.
Mr. Dawson got what he paid for on Thursday night. The Giants beat the Cardinals 6-3 to win the NLCS four games to one. All was once again right in the Cubs’ universe. Well, as right as it can be when they were “waiting til next year” by Memorial Day.
