San Francisco Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum hasn’t pitched yet this MLB postseason, and had to skip a scheduled bullpen session on Saturday due to a stiff neck.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy is insisting that right-hander Tim Lincecum will be on the team’s World Series roster as a long reliever, despite Lincecum not pitching yet this entire playoff run. But Lincecum had to skip a scheduled bullpen session yesterday due to a stiff neck, which might explain his absence this October.

Lincecum had his worst season yet in 2014, so it’s possible he was able to pitch earlier in these playoffs and Bochy simply wasn’t comfortable handing him the ball; or he just might not have been needed. But it’s something worth keeping an eye on, particularly given the Kansas City Royals‘ penchant for ending up in extra-innings games this October, and a reliever with the ability to go multiple innings (such as a former starter like Lincecum), could be quite the valuable weapon for the Giants, assuming Lincecum is effective, which he hasn’t been often this season.

Regardless, barring the injury worsening before Tuesday, Lincecum will be on San Francisco’s World Series roster, and will try to help the Giants win their third World Series since the 2010 season.
