6.) DeMarcus Cousins

Coming in as the second 24-year-old from Kentucky on this list, Cousins is after one thing: becoming the best center in the game.

Cousins has yet to play for a good team, but that hasn’t stopped him from getting better each and every year. Last season brought out the best in Cousins as he averaged 22.7 points (50 percent shooting), 11.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

The knock on Cousins has always been his attitude and lack of maturity, but hopefully a summer with the USA national team helped put him in the right direction.

5.) Russell Westbrook

After a stretch of big men, Westbrook starts off the top five and is the second point guard on the list.

For a 26-year-old, Westbrook sure has already played a lot of basketball – and great basketball at that. Westbrook has quite the line in his six season in the NBA: 20.1 points (43 percent shooting), 6.9 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals. Some would say Westbrook has put up these numbers because he plays with Kevin Durant, but I would say he puts them up despite of Durant.

Westbrook’s talent is second to none, and he plays like a guy that wants to run a team. With Durant reportedly missing about the first six weeks of the season, don’t be surprised if Westbrook is in the early MVP consideration.
