1. Peyton Manning breaks another record

On Sunday night, Peyton Manning threw for four touchdowns and in the process broke Brett Favre’s record for regular season touchdown passes. After his Denver Broncos decimated the San Francisco 49ers 42-17, Manning now has 510 touchdowns to Favre’s 508, while Dan Marino is third with 420.

At this point I think it’s safe to say that Manning is the greatest regular season quarterback in NFL history. Yeah, I know I’m not exactly going out on a limb there, but the distinction is important. Manning is 1-2 in Super Bowls and has a career playoff record of 11-12. He holds dozens of NFL records, and what he and his forehead have done to the league’s record book is illegal in 49 states and parts of West Virginia. But you simply can’t rank him as the best quarterback of all-time because he’s only gone to the mountain top once, while guys like Joe Montana and Tom Brady have done it on multiple occasions.

Manning is off to a terrific start this season. He leads the NFL in passer ration (118.2), Total QBR (88.9) and is tied for the lead in touchdown passes (19). His Broncos are 5-1 and welcome the 5-2 San Diego Chargers to Denver on Thursday night. If he can keep it going and get his second Super Bowl ring this season, we can revisit the “best of all-time” debate.

That said, by the time he’s done with football, Manning’s touchdown record will almost certainly look untouchable.
