No. 28-25

28. Jake Locker (Charlie Whitehurst) – Tennessee Titans

As I’m writing this it’s still unclear if it will be Jake Locker or Charlie Whitehurst making the start for Tennessee this week. While I think the general consensus is probably that Locker is the better option, their numbers this season don’t really back that opinion up. Whitehurst has a higher completion percentage, higher YPA average, and a better TD to INT ratio. It probably doesn’t really matter which QB starts because there is speculation that the Titans may give rookie Zach Mettenberger a shot sooner rather than later.

27. Kyle Orton – Buffalo Bills

When the Bills made the move to go from EJ Manuel to Kyle Orton is showed me two things. First, they really want to win games right now. Second, they don’t think they can do that with Manuel. Orton isn’t flashy and won’t ever put up big numbers, but he is a solid NFL place holder until they find their long term solution at the position. Orton won’t win games on his own for Buffalo, but the hope is that he won’t lose them either.

26. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Houston Texans

You can take everything I just typed about Kyle Orton being a solid NFL place holder at QB and just repeat it again here for Fitzpatrick. The Texans clearly felt they had a solid enough team to be competitive with a journeyman like Fitzpatrick at QB. To his credit, he’s been much less self destructive than Matt Schaub was, but it’s only a matter of time before the Texans start looking for a long term answer at QB.

25. Brian Hoyer – Cleveland Browns

Brian Hoyer has the worst completion percentage of all the QBs on this list. That having been said, he does have a respectable 7.6 YPA average and seven TDs to only two interceptions. The problem that the Browns may eventually face is that while Hoyer may be good enough to not get benched, just being good enough to not lose your job isn’t the ultimate goal. If Hoyer wants to keep Johnny Manziel on the bench he’s going to have to do more than play “solid”. He needs to keep the Browns in the playoff hunt.
