No. 12-9

12. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers

Cam Newton looked like he might be able to carry the Panthers on his back early in the season, but as the season wears on it’s becoming clear that the lack of help he has at RB, WR, and OL is starting to catch up with him (not to mention he’s been banged up as well). His numbers still aren’t bad, but he needs more help around him. If you put Newton on the Bears with the weapons Cutler has, I feel like Newton would be competing for a spot in the top five of these rankings.

11. Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens

I’ll admit I wasn’t real high on Joe Flacco to start this season. He was incredible in the Ravens Super Bowl run, but last year looked like a completely different QB (in a bad way). This season he is back to looking like the Super Bowl winning Flacco again. The addition of Steve Smith at WR seems to have really helped their passing attack, especially with the injury to Dennis Pita. If Flacco continues to play at this high level he may crack the top ten in the near future.

10. Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger is a good QB, but figuring out just how good can be a challenge. There are times when he looks like one of the true elite in the NFL, but then he’ll go out and lay an egg against the Browns and look like a middle of the road QB. I think when you look at his overall production Big Ben is a borderline top ten QB that you can argue should be either a couple of spots higher or lower on this list.

9. Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints

At the start of the season Drew Brees was solidly in the top three QBs in the NFL with Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers. As this season has played out Brees is slowly falling out of contention with the elite in the NFL. He’s still completing passes at a high rate and is averaging 319.3 yards per game, but his eleven TDs to seven interceptions just isn’t up to his previous standards. I know Jimmy Graham has been banged up, but he still has enough weapons that it seems like he should be able to put up more points than what he currently is.
