Arizona wins “Battle of the Angry Birds,” make case for best in NFC West

The last time the Arizona Cardinals were this dominant, they had near-retired quarterback in Kurt Warner.  From 2008-09, the Cardinals were the top team in the NFC West, and somehow found themselves in Super Bowl XLIII, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh’s final drive.

Fast forward about five years later, the Cardinals are in a similar situation like their improbable Super Bowl run in 2008.  This time with formerly retired quarterback Carson Palmer.

Palmer and the Cardinals offense have done anything but play it safe this season, and Palmer’s game-winning 75-yard touchdown pass to rookie John Brown with 1:21 left in the game pushed the Cardinals to 6-1 on the season after their 24-20 win over the Eagles Sunday.

Palmer threw his second 300-yard game of the season, throwing for 329 yards with a pair of touchdowns, the other being an 80-yard touchdown to Larry Fitzgerald. HIn the four games he’s played this season, Palmer has thrown for 1,136 yards with eight touchdowns and just one interception.

“When it’s time to step up, that’s what you have to do,” Brown said.

Arizona is off to their best start in 40 years, currently sit two games above San Francisco for top spot in the NFC West, are on a similar pace to their 2008 Super Bowl run and could seriously establish themselves in the NFC if they can beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
