Fantasy Football Waiver Wire 2014: Top 10 Week 9 pickups
Jonas Gray-RB-New England Patriots (0.1%)
Just two weeks ago Jonas Gray was on the Patriots practice squad when Stevan Ridley suffered a season-ending injury. Now, Gray is solidly on fantasy radars everywhere after he served as the Patriots’ top running back on Sunday in their trouncing of the Bears.
Gray got 17 of the Patriots 32 carries on Sunday, but no other running back received more than six carries. He looked efficient on those plays rushing for a solid 86 yards. He did get the goal line carries as well, but the Patriots did not score a rushing touchdown since Tom Brady was busy throwing for five of his own. Gray isn’t involved in the passing game at this point, and he continues to rotate with receiving back specialist Shane Vereen.
His timeshare limits his upside and the Patriots have a constantly shifting backfield balance, but it’s clear he and Vereen will be the two primary options with James White and Brandon Bolden playing much more insignificant roles. This week the Patriots play the Broncos, so it’s not really the week to roll Gray out as a starter if you can avoid it, but he’s definitely worth a pickup to give you depth going forward.
