Fantasy Football Waiver Wire 2014: Top 10 Week 9 pickups
Brandon LaFell-WR-New England Patriots
Another Patriots offensive weapon who is emerging as a fantasy factor is Brandon LaFell. The former Panther got off to a slow start with the Patriots and didn’t catch a pass in the first two weeks of the season with his new team. Since then, though, he’s picked things up catching at least four passes in five of his last six games and scoring four touchdowns over that span.
On Sunday against Chicago, LaFell had his best game of the season catching all 11 passes Tom Brady threw his way and piling up 124 yards and a touchdown. LaFell is the new receiver Brady has connected with and is the “big-play” threat that New England has needed on the outside to complement Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski working over the middle.
This week, LaFell and the Patriots host Peyton Manning and the Broncos and will need to put plenty of points on the board to be competitive. Don’t count New England’s offense out of this one since they’re extremely good at home at this time of year and looked like a very complete unit on Sunday. While I’m not sure New England will win, LaFell and Brady should continue to connect enough to make him a fantasy option in week 9 before New England’s bye week in week 10.
