NFL QB Power Rankings: Ranking The Starters Through Week 8
No. 16-13
16. Carson Palmer – Arizona Cardinals (+3)
The same way I missed on thinking Jay Cutler would have a great season, I appear to have missed on thinking Carson Palmer was washed up and would lose his job for good this season. Bottom line, Palmer is passing for 284 yards per game, has 8 TDs and only one interception, and the Cardinals are 6-1. It’s Palmer’s ability to not turn the ball over this season that has impressed me most since that’s been a big problem for him in recent years.
15. Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions (+1)
Matthew Stafford may never live up to his first overall draft pick and tremendous perceived upside, but he’s done a good job of getting the job done even with the best WR on the planet missing multiple games due to injury. Stafford deserves his share of credit for Detroit’s 6-2 start, but I still walk away from watching him play and think he’s capable of more.
14. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers (-2)
Cam Newton drops a couple of spots this week after getting controlled by the Seahawks last week. There is no denying Cam’s talent, but ultimately if he wants to be viewed as a top ten QB he has to produce even if he doesn’t have the best supporting cast in the NFL.
13. Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens (-2)
Joe Flacco drops a couple of spots as well after getting swept by their division rival Cincinnati Bengals. If the Ravens can ever find a way to ensure that Flacco is the same guy that carried them to a Super Bowl win every single week they’ll be in great shape. Unfortunately, they haven’t seemed to be able to crack that code just yet.
