No. 4-1

4. Tom Brady – New England Patriots (+3)

As a die hard Chiefs fan, I watched as KC shut Tom Brady down on Monday Night Football and like many others wondered if the days of Brady being an elite QB were officially over. Well, it’s amazing what Brady can do once he finally got an elite target (Gronk) back on the field and fully healthy. Suddenly, Brady looks like his old self again. Brady is such a competitor, I’m guessing those whispers of his demise probably sparked a fire and right now that fire is blazing.

3. Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers

Philip Rivers is still holding strong in the three spot despite losing two straight games to division rivals. Why? Well, first off if you watch him it’s clear that he’s one of the best in the NFL. Second, the numbers back it up too. Rivers is third in the NFL in QB Rating, second in the NFL in QBR, third in the NFL in Pro Football Focus’ grades, etc. Do I like Philip Rivers? No, as a fan of a division rival I hate that guy. Do I respect him though? Absolutely.

2. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers may have lost to the Saints last week, but he’s holding strong at number two in these rankings. Rodgers is my favorite QB to watch, period. I don’t know how anyone could watch him play and have any issue with placing him here, unless they are arguing he should be number one. While I love watching Rodgers play, I think you still have to give the top spot right now to……..

1. Peyton Manning – Denver Broncos

As a surprise to no one, Peyton Manning keeps the top spot in the rankings after disposing of Philip Rivers and the Chargers. Manning is at the top of the NFL in both traditional QB Rating and QBR. His 69% completion percentage is great, but more impressive is how the old man is tied for the fourth best “air yards” per completion in the NFL with an average of 7.1 yards. So much for him having a noodle arm after his neck surgery, huh?

That does it for this week’s list. I’m prepared for your criticisms, so bring them on. I continue to have the most trouble ranking the 11-21 stretch. I feel like if you asked ten different people to rank the QBs in that range you’d get ten completely different orders. I think in that range it comes down to a lot of personal preference, but I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks for reading.
