Charles Barkley was in the announcing crew for the New York Knicks‘s road win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, but wasn’t too kind to TNT or the Los Angeles Lakers during the broadcast.

It’s great to have NBA basketball back, but it’s no secret the early days of the season can be, well, rough. The New York Knicks pulled a stunner on the Cleveland Cavaliers, spoiling the return of LeBron James with a 95-90 road victory, but calling it an exciting game would have been a stretch.
The TNT announcing crew was doing their best to keep it entertaining for those watching at home, and Charles Barkley had some thoughts regarding the network’s schedule, and wondered out loud why TNT was showing the Los Angeles Lakers:
Awesomely, Barkley doesn’t back off after his initial question is laughed off, later outright saying, “TNT, quit showing the Lakers.”
The Lakers still have an aging Kobe Bryant, but found out recently Steve Nash’s season, and possibly career, was over, and lost promising rookie Julius Randle to a broken leg in their season opener, possibly for the season. There’s a good chance the Lakers will be bad, particularly in the ultra-competitive West Conference, so Barkley’s words, while harsh, certainly have some merit to them. TNT would probably prefer he not bash their slate of games on air, though.
