Destiny Hits 9.5 Million Users

Thus far Destiny has seen huge levels of success, and that can be substantiated by Acitivision announcing that the game has over 9.5 million registered users.

Activision and Bungie rolled out a new IP earlier this fall that was expected to be one of the largest gaming launches of all time. At this point, it looks like both companies can successfully pat themselves on the back and chalk the release up as just that. Right now, Destiny has over 9.5 million registered users.

Despite seeing mixed reviews and watching feedback come in both negatively and positively, there’s plenty of gamers still exploring Destiny’s environments. The 9.5 million number spans Destiny on all platforms.

Activision hadn’t announced anything new in regards to Destiny’s sales numbers since September. At that point, Destiny had shipped five million copies of the game to retail stores and brought in $325 million during the first week. Activision also announced that registered users play on average, three hours per session.

With many gamers having already completed the campaign missions themselves, the playtime can likely be attributed to the quest of seeking out legendary and exotic gear in order to raise your light level from 20 to 30.

The Dark Below, the first expansion pack releasing for Destiny launches on December 9. New content will be introduced along with a level increase.

Activision and Bungie have to be thrilled with the numbers. After all, the amount of money put into the game was a staggering amount, anything less than a considerable success would be a failure. Bungie still has some clear hurdles to overcome however.

Going forward with Destiny, something needs to be done about the playability of the experience itself. Once you have completed the campaign and the countless strikes the game has to offer, the crucible and raid are waiting for you. The crucible features a matchmaking system making the experience consistently fresh. Unfortunately, the raid does not.

Anyone looking to increase their level and play through the raid must team up, on their own, with a host of other players. This is an unfortunate oversight by Bungie and hinders what is likely the best part of the game.
