AFC 2nd Seed (AFC East Champions): New England Patriots (13-3)

The Patriots are another team that had a slow start, and people were whispering about whether Tom Brady still had it or not. They were 2-2 after four games, but had a double-digit loss to the Dolphins in Week 1, and got embarrassed by the Kansas City Chiefs 41-14 in Week 4.

After that, the Patriots have reeled off five consecutive wins, averaging an amazing 40.2 points per game in those games. Their last two games have been even more impressive, putting up 51 against the reeling Bears and 43 against Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Overall, they rank second in points scored.

They may be riding high right now, but they have some tough games coming up. After this week’s bye, they have to go to Indianapolis to face the Colts next week, in what may be a shootout. They also face that top ranked defense in the Lions, and finish off the last three games against division foes, and they will be playing hard against the Patriots no matter the records. So even though Brady and company beat the Broncos, they won’t have the top seed.

After being questioned, Brady has answered his critics. Of course, having Rob Gronkowski back and healthy really helps Brady.

I have a feeling that the game between the Patriots and Broncos last week won’t be the last time those two teams meet.
