San Antonio Spurs‘ forward Kawhi Leonard missed the NBA opener because of an eye injury and he is still having problems with his vision.

Leonard entered the season with issues in his right eye and even missed the Spurs’ season-opening victory over the Dallas Mavericks. He returned after missing just the one game but like his team, he has gotten off to a very slow start. The Spurs are 2-3 while Leonard is averaging just 9.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 30.8% from the field, 11.1% from three and 86.7% from the foul line.

“My right eye, the vision’s not all the way back yet,” Leonard said via Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express News. “Hopefully I can heal up soon. I’ve just got to keep competing so I can get used to it and get my rhythm going.”

The doctors have told him he simply has to wait out and will get better in time.

“It just has to run its course,” Leonard said. The doctor (team eye specialist Dr. Ed Rashid) said there were some military guys who had it for weeks and some for months.”

“I have to,” Leonard said when asked if he could play. “That’s what I’m doing now. I can’t wait and sit on the sidelines anymore just wasting games. It might not ever clear up until summer, so I’m playing now.”
