The Chicago Bears parted ways with WR Santonio Holmes, a sign the Super Bowl XLIII Most Valuable Player’s career is approaching its end.

Santonio Holmes reived the news of his being cut by the Chicago Bears on Tuesday afternoon, but it comes with a silver lining: he no longer has to be a member of the struggling franchise.

The Bears decided tell Holmes, “Bye, Felicia,” who was really nothing more than window dressing for much of the season — catching only eight passes for 68 yards in nine games.

Tuesday marks the latest fall down the rungs of the NFL for Holmes, whose career peaked when he was named Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl XLIII after catching the game-winning touchdown for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Holmes was a first round pick by the Steelers in 2006 and spent five years with the franchise before Pittsburgh tired of his off-field activities.

Only the police targeted Holmes more than Ben Roethlisberger, as he was arrested five times prior to the Steelers trading him to the New York Jets for a Freeman McNeil rookie card for a fifth round pick in 2010.

The change of address led to more issues, as Holmes missed the first four games of the 2010 season due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He returned to help the Jets reach the AFC Championship game, where they lost to the Steelers.

It would mark his peak with the team, as injuries limited him to just 15 games in his final two seasons with the Jets, who released him in April.
