NFL QB Power Rankings: Ranking The Starters Through Week 10
No. 20-17
20. Mark Sanchez – Philadelphia Eagles
For all the grief I’ve gotten from Eagles fans for not ranking Nick Foles higher, hopefully this strong debut for Mark Sanchez will prove that I don’t have some kind of anti-Philly agenda going on. I actually think Sanchez has a higher ceiling than Foles and if Chip Kelly can get the most out of Sanchez mentally he could become the long term starter and may find himself higher up on these rankings than Foles ever was.
19. Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears
Is there a more disappointing QB this season in all the NFL than Jay Cutler? All those weapons and so little meaningful production. If you look at his 66% completion percentage, 263 yards per game passing, and 18 TDs it seems as if Cutler is doing a solid job. However, if you’ve actually been watching the games you know that Cutler simply hasn’t been competitive in several games while the game was still up for grabs.
18. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers (-4)
I’ve been giving Cam Newton the benefit of the doubt because of his poor supporting cast, but at this point I can’t justify ranking him ahead of QBs that are clearly playing better. Newton’s poor play can be explained by the pounding he has taken and lack of weapons on offense, but mediocre play deserves a mediocre ranking.
17. Brian Hoyer – Cleveland Browns (+3)
Brian Hoyer might be at the top of the list of QBs that I was wrong about this season. I would have NEVER guessed that he would still be the starter at this point in the season with Johnny Manziel sitting on the bench. Not only is the job still firmly his, the Browns may even be looking to sign Hoyer long term which would put Manziel’s future in Cleveland in doubt.
