5. Tre Mason, St. Louis Rams

The St. Louis Rams have been looking for a legitimate franchise running back since Steven Jackson left town, and rookie Tre Mason came through with a big game this week in a big win over the Denver Broncos. He carried the football 29 times for 113 yards on the afternoon. Those numbers are extremely impressive, and it was his first game carrying the football more than 20 times in his career.

If the Rams are going to turn things around and get back into playoff contention, they are going to need a legitimate starting running back. Mason was one of the best playmakers in all of college football last season at Auburn, and he is showing signs of transferring that talent to the NFL. At just 21 years of age, there is a lot of excitement surrounding him in the Rams’ organization.

This game from Mason may not appear to be a huge surprise or performance without a touchdown, but he broke out in a big way. There is no question that the Rams have their starter moving forward, and he could very well fit into the long-term plans in St. Louis.
