Peyton Manning is Mortal After All

There was no way the rebuilding St. Louis Rams would defeat the great Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos on Sunday… right?  I mean, the Broncos don’t just score seven points in a game.

Let’s just say there’s a lot of people who lost money on this one.

What was supposed to be a sure-win for Denver turned out to be a huge chunk of humble pie in Sunday’s 22-7 loss to the Rams where Peyton, who’s suddenly mortal, threw for just 389 yards with only one touchdown and two interceptions.

Denver failed to convert twice on fourth down deep in Rams territory and Manning threw incomplete from the Rams 37 in the first and then was sacked to end a drive in the fourth on a fourth-and-4 from the Rams 28-yard-line.

Sunday marked Peyton’s fourth game of the season where he threw two interceptions, and his third straight doing so, including tossing a pair of picks against the Raiders (yes that actually happened) last week.

To put this game in perspective, Rams quarterback Shaun Hill actually outplayed the future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, going 20-for-29 for 220 yards with a touchdown.  Where Hill lacked in yardage, he made up for in passing efficiency, recording a 68.8 QBR on the day compared to Peyton’s 32.9 QBR.  It was a perfect way for Hill to get his job back in his first start since the season opener.

The win on Sunday gives the Rams wins against both Super Bowl participants from last year (Seattle and Denver) and the defending 2012 NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers.
