Fantasy Football 2014: Top Waiver Wire Week 12 Pickups
Coby Fleener-TE-Indianapolis Colts (26.1%)
In week 11, Fleener led all tight ends in scoring with 144 yards against the Patriots in the Colts big loss on Sunday Night Football. Indianapolis was forced to throw 39 times since they were behind much of the game, and Fleener led the team in both catches and receiving yards as the Patriots secondary took away T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne for the most part.
Fleener has been on the rise with over 50 yards in three of his last four games now, and he could continue to see increased workload especially if his teammate and fellow tight end Dwayne Allen missed any playing time. Allen left Sunday’s game with a sprained ankle, and early reports say he may miss a week or two even though the injury isn’t considered serious. Allen has been the preferred tight end in the red zone this season for Andrew Luck and the Colts, but Fleener’s fantasy value would definitely jump if he could step into that role.
Another reason that Fleener gets our top TE spot in the waiver wire week 12 pickups is that he has a favorable schedule for the next several weeks. This week, the Colts host Jacksonville who rank 11th in the league in most points allowed to opposing tight ends and have allowed at least 40 yards to TE’s in five of their last six games. The remaining weeks of the fantasy season, Fleener faces Washington, Cleveland, Houston, and Dallas all of whom have struggled with opposing tight ends this season. Fleener is definitely the top widely-available tight end option at this point, and he’ll be a fringe TE1 this week especially if Dwayne Allen is forced to miss the game or is limited by his ankle injury against the Jags.
