No. 28-25

28. Zach Mettenberger – Tennessee Titans (+2)

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Zach Mettenberger thus far. I knew he had arm talent, but I wasn’t expecting there to be much accuracy to go along with it. Despite Mettenberger not being afraid to throw long he is still completing over 60% of his passes. Monday night was probably a fitting depiction of his game right now in that he had a beautiful deep TD pass but also threw a pick six.

27. Derek Carr – Oakland Raiders (-1)

I say this every week, but I’m impressed with how well Derek Carr has played considering his supporting cast of playmakers on offense. Perhaps most impressive is that he’s tied with Peyton Manning for the fewest times sacked by QBs that have started all season. That shows good awareness by a rookie QB. That having been said, I don’t like his Thursday night matchup with Kansas City on a short week.

26. Ryan Mallett – Houston Texans (+6)

Ryan Mallett is the biggest riser of the week up six spots from his debut on the rankings last week. He completed 66.7% of his passes against a very good Cleveland pass defense. Most impressive is that he was able to do that while throwing down field consistently. His average completion hit his target 10.6 yards past the line of scrimmage.

25. Shaun Hill – St. Louis Rams

It would be fair to characterize me as a Shaun Hill skeptic, but you can’t deny his results in his first game back as the Rams starting QB. Going head to head with Peyton Manning and winning is impressive. I think it had a lot more to do with St. Louis’ defense than with Hill but we’ll see how he plays going forward from here.
