NFL QB Power Rankings: Ranking The Starters For Week 13
No. 16-13
16. Kyle Orton – Buffalo Bills – Power Ranking Score: 229.4 (+7)
No one benefited from the Power Ranking scoring system more than Kyle Orton who is up seven spots from last week. Orton has the fourth highest accuracy percentage on the list (a surprise to me) and his 12 TD to only 3 interceptions differential is a definite selling point as well. He may not be the long term answer in Buffalo, but he’s sure done a good job filling in for the benched EJ Manuel.
15. Eli Manning – New York Giants – Power Ranking Score: 238.6 (+1)
Good Eli is a top ten quarterback. Bad Eli is a bottom ten quarterback. So it seems appropriate that Eli be ranked somewhere in the middle. Eli’s numbers are pretty average across the board. Nothing is really dropping him down, but he doesn’t have any one area that you can really point to and say “well that’s impressive”.
14. Colin Kaepernick – San Francisco 49ers – Power Ranking Score: 242.5 (-3)
I find it interesting that with all the factors that I included in my Power Ranking score and with a 225 point range between the top and bottom QBs on the list that Colin Kaepernick and Alex Smith finished just 3.3 points apart. Kaepernick continues to play fine, but you can’t help but feel he’s capable of so much more.
13. Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – Power Ranking Score: 245.8
Smith is the king of low ceiling efficiency. I’m not sure he’s capable of being much higher than this, but as long as he continues to complete a high percentage of throws, not turn the ball over, and score an occasional TD or two he’ll rank out higher than some of the more talented QBs that continually shoot themselves in the foot.
