This goal, scored by Buffalo centerman Tyler Ennis against Montreal’s Carey Price, made my night better for a number of reasons.
First, Tyler Ennis is rapidly becoming one of my favorite NHLers. He’s a bright spot for maybe the most catastrophic team in the entire league, sitting on a respectable 6 goals and 7 assists in 2014 despite his franchise being firmly entrenched in last place. You have to love a good player who doesn’t mind becoming the face of a fairly tragic team.
Second, even if it wasn’t Tyler Ennis — although that would excite me somewhat less, because my interest level in Buffalo drops off a bit after him — there is nothing more delicious than watching things happen to the Montreal Canadiens. It’s actually programmed into my Ontario DNA to loathe anything Habs-related, so seeing the last place team serve up such a sick goal against them made me smile extra big.
Finally, I hadn’t seen an absolutely jaw-dropping goal since Seth Griffith made that crazy backwards-and-between-my-legs shot for the Bruins back in early November, and I was starting to get antsy for another sick addition to this season’s highlight reel.
Oh… and did I mention that put the Sabres up 1-0? How sweet it is.
