Vancouver Canucks’ Alex Burrows Cut In Face By Skate (Video)
By Phil Watson
Alex Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks left the game in the second period after taking a skate to the face. But he returned, because he’s a hockey player.
Vancouver Canucks forward Alex Burrows got a scare Sunday against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
Burrows went down in front of his own net, as did Detroit forward Johan Franzen. In a classic case of someone’s face being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Franzen’s skate caught Burrows across the cheek.
Franzen’s other boot just missed Burrows’ mug, avoiding a double cut.

But Burrows is a hockey player.
After missing the rest of the second period back in the garage for repairs in the dressing room for stitches, Burrows returned to the ice for the third period warmups and skated his regular shift the rest of the way.
But Burrows and the Canucks were on the short end of a 5-3 score, snapping a three-game winning streak.
Burrows, 33, is in his 10th season with the Canucks and has six goals and 11 points in 18 games this season. He was sidelined for three games earlier this month for a hit on Alexei Elelin of the Montreal Canadiens.
Burrows made the NHL the hard way, fighting his way up after signing with the Greenville Grrrowl (seriously, the Grrrowl) of the ECHL as a free agent in 2002 and worked his way through the lower tiers of professional hockey until he got a two-way contract from the Canucks in November 2005.
He made his NHL debut on Jan. 2, 2006.
