Loser: Andy Dalton is Bad Dalton Again

While I’ve never truly liked Andy Dalton as a franchise quarterback, I was starting to warm to him.

So I should have known that he would remind me of all the things I couldn’t stand about him.

The Bengals are a team which has been winning football games, but unlike a franchise like Green Bay, Indianapolis or New England, they are winning despite their quarterback, not because of him.

It’s not just because he threw three interceptions Sunday, although that made me reconsider my burgeoning support of him because it was an ugly performance. It’s because when you look at him this season, you see a quarterback consistently making awful decisions which all too often result in turnovers.

He’s thrown just 13 touchdowns, but he’s also thrown 13 interceptions. It’s a brutal stat-line, and not just in a Football Outsiders/Pro Football Focus kind of vacuum. He’s making clearly boneheaded decisions, even on plays where he manages to avoid turnovers.

Dalton is a mess and right now he looks like he’s getting ready to collapse during the playoffs yet again.
