4. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers have seen a resurgence this season from veteran tight end Antonio Gates, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. At this point in time, the Chargers are a legitimate contender in the AFC playoff race, but they need their star tight end to continue his strong play. He has caught 47 passes for 574 yards and nine touchdowns on the year.

3. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints

Jimmy Graham has also dealt with some injury issues this year himself, but has still come up with a big year for the Saints. He has caught 65 passes for 670 yards and nine touchdowns on the season, and has helped New Orleans stick around in the playoff race. The Saints will need him to continue coming up with big performances to end up winning the NFC South.

2. Julius Thomas, Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning has been very happy with having Julius Thomas as his starting tight end over the past couple years, and Thomas has put up big numbers this year. He has caught 40 passes for 426 yards and 12 touchdowns. Despite having less receiving yards on the year, this race between Thomas and Gronkowski isn’t as easy to call as some would think.

1. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots

At this point in the season, the New England Patriots have been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL. They got off to a bit of a slow start, but tight end Rob Gronkowski has been one of the players that have stepped up to help power the offense forward. He has caught 65 passes for 910 yards and nine touchdowns this season, and is without a doubt the best tight end in the league.
